On Monday, Facebook announced that CNN, NBC’s Today Show, Slate, Buzzfeed and BSkyB will begin using Facebook’s content in programming. According to USA Today, news organizations will be able to post Facebook users’ public comments related to certain topics alongside their programming.

This new step from Facebook will enable broadcast companies and other news outlets to gather data on what topics are trending and see the demographics of males and females and their discussions.

How did this come to fruition? Recent changes to your Facebook profile such as larger images on your News Feed and the use of hashtag symbols that track keywords and topics have prompted this next step. The vibrant new look and feel will help highlight what your friends are sharing, so you may have noticed more shared content popping up in your news feed.
