The Role of Public Relations in 2010

This past year has brought substantial changes to the business world as well as the public relations industry. A recent Vocus survey asked approximately 1,800 PR professionals about their perceptions of PR planning for 2010 amid a changing landscape. The study found that 64% of respondents either agreed or strongly agreed that PR planning will be more difficult in 2010. But, there are reasons to be optimistic as 24% said they anticipated their budgets increasing slightly and 5% said that they anticipate a significant increase in budget.

The study also found that social media will be key. In 2010, 80% of respondents said they will focus on the new medium. Multimedia is not far behind with 63%. Other key areas of focus include tactics to measure results, SEO and viral campaigns with 58%, 57% and 56%, respectively. Additionally, 63% of respondents are planning to refine processes this year, while 51% will invest in new technology in order to do more with less. Finally, the study found that 64% believe that PR will become increasingly important in the overall marketing mix in 2010.

Constructive Communication, Inc. is looking forward to 2010 as we plan to continue to incorporate online social media, public relations, marketing strategy and communications tactics into marketing plans and goals to ensure that our clients succeed.
